Obsessed
July 20, 2009Mariah Carey and Eminem. An unlikely pair. But they briefly dated. Eminem who clearly didn’t get over the break up wrote in his ‘Bagpipes from Baghdad’ song:
‘Mariah, what ever happened to us, why did we have to break up… Nick Cannon (Mariah’s husband) better back the fuck up. I’m not playing, I want her back, you punk.’
Mariah’s response: ‘I was like, why are you so obsessed with me?” She further responded with Obsessed, the new single from her upcoming album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. It features lyrics like: You’re delusional, boy, you’re losing your mind … Why are you so obsessed with me? Lying that you’re sexing me.’ Although her director denies it, the video is a clear jab at Eminem where Mariah impersonates him, by copying his moves and dressing up exactly like him right down to the baggy pants.
I remember the 80s and early 90s Mariah. That girl had class. Now, she’s become soft-porn Touch My Body Mariah. I don’t think Eminem is obsessed with Mariah. Clearly, she’s obsessed with herself.
I’m not a huge Eminem fan, but I much prefer his video and song, Beautiful. What do you think?
i heard that mariah song on the radio a few days ago and musically (i.e. not lyrically and not what it’s actually about or anything) i thought it was great, y’know in terms of pop production etc. i think her voice suits this style even though yeh it’s nothing like the mariah we remember from the 90s.
i watched the clip just then and reckon it’s pretty trashy. and yeh it also gave me the impression that she’s obsessed with herself.
the eminem song didn’t really grab me. the clip has some very nice moments of cinematography scattered throughout, but otherwise i didn’t find it that special either.

i’ll admit mariah’s song is catchy musically (and i’ll probably download it) but i prefer eminem’s video (cuz it’s not ‘obsessed with myself’) and the lyrics of his song are more meaningful and spoke to me 
I used to be such a fan of Mariah’s and now not so much. I agree with you that she seems obsessed with herself and slightly soft-core porn-y.
She still has a good voice but image-wise, I think she should just fade away. Was that too harsh?
